Nikkor 43-86mm f/3.5 *****
« on: November 06, 2010, 10:19:11 AM »
Earlier version said to be the worst Nikkor ever. This 11-element specimen (vintage 1989) has retained some of the, er... peculiar bokeh. Closest focusing distance still an awkward 1.2 meter. Or else (as in this self-portrait) you'll need the #0 Nikon CU attachment, which is likely to be more expensive than the lens itself these days. All-metal construction = 450 g!

You ought to send more samples though. You can't really judge a lens performance from one image.

I once (briefly) owned the notorious 9-element version, so I can tell the difference at first glance. This specimen popped in the mail just a few hours ago and I will of course put it through its paces  a.s.a.p. outdoors, weather permitting.  Ironically, it’s the « bad Â» ones that have become collectors items.

Here's another try, in my usual bad taste. I tweak my pictures, not my models (see all 8 legs on shot from the same session).
