I had a play with my new Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 this morning. It is great being able to see something in the LCD before sunrise and to be able to focus accurately.

This first lot are my 'traditional' landscapes and include a 7-frame panorama. Seascapes are not ideal for panoramas thanks to the moving water but it came out reasonable enough...

You've done a splendid job, Peter. Both the seascapes, the panorama, and the Sculptures by the Sea!

Hi Peter,
Very nice images.  I'm seriously considering this lens.  How difficult is it to focus?  I always seem to have "the shakes" when focusing a manual focus lens on my Pens.  Thanks in advance.

Working with wide apertures at close distances is not for unsteady hands but then a tripod will help that.

Focusing is very easy but not quick as there is quite a range in the focus ring but a lot of that is between 0.5 and 0.17m.

Thanks for the advice.  I'm having Will at Photo VIllage in NYC check over some older CV glass in hopes of making a trade towards the 25.  Hopefully things will work out.  Have a nice day.

Some black and white portraits with the Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95. These are generally taken at around f/2 or 2.8...

These BW portraits are great - the lens has a real character to it and a very subtle rendition.

Any problems with colour at wide apertures?

Only a f/0.95 and on edges with extreme contrast where purple fringing and haloing can appear. Complete gone by f/1.2 and not noticable in a b&w conversion.

Peter - very nice portrait work.  Thanks for posting images from the new Voigtlander 25mm.  'Like it so much I have one enroute from Photo Village.  :)
Over the past eight or ten months the  MFT format has really impressed me, so much so I sold my M8.  :D

Great, now I'm jealous that you have the Voigtlander 25mm F0.95 and live near some of the best surf breaks in the world.

'Just got my Voigtlander 25/.95 from Photo Village via a trade for some "not used much" CV glass.  I'll be doing some shooting with it this weekend.  Initial shots around the house are very favorable.  A very sharp lens even wide open.  It really has that "vintage glass" look.  Easy to focus even with image magnified.  Let me be a bit professorial for a moment - "this is a big honkin' lens. A lot of glass and a lot of metal.  Definitely not a pancake. ::)  The hood that is included is large too.  I'm guessing here that it was made that way so the weight of the lens doesn't tip over the camera when it's set down.  A six dollar hood from Rainbow Imaging in New York worked fine too with no vignetting. Update - 'Nope a small amount of vignetting is present and noticeable outside in bright light with the "normal" aftermarket hood.
Here's shot I took for my wife sewing some costume pants up for a play our son is in.  ISO400, wide open, (or near so.),  1/500 second, window light, processed in LR3.

Here's a "1:1 Grab" post processing.

Here it is on my E-P2.

I hope this very brief initial test is helpful.  More shots soon.

Hello,
'Still enjoying the Nokton a lot, thought I'd share a shot from today.  A promo picture of one of our students for a promotional email campaign at the college where I teach.  E-PL1, Nokton 25/.95, ISO400, Two Lowell Rifa soft lights - 1 key and 1 hair, processed in LR3.2 and CS4 for posting.

Very nice photo Burkey

Everyone that has gone down the path of buying the Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 seems to be very happy with their choice. It should be a lesson to Olympus and Panasonic that fast, well built and resonablely priced lenses are the way to go. If Cosina can get all of those criteria together in the same product, why not Olympus and Panasonic?

Thanks, Peter.  The ease of focusing the Nokton is a big plus for me as it always seemed to be a bit of a problem for me with other manual focus glass on MFT bodies.  'Not sure why, maybe aging eyes.  I agree about the build quality as well as the optical quality.  I've been a long time fan of Cosina's Voigtlander line.  I wish Mr. Kobayashi would consider tooling up for some "connected"  AF MFT lenses too.

I agree that the focussing is very easy with the Voigtlander. Even though the E-P1 has a poor reputation for manual focussing, I haven't found it to be a major problem with any manual focus lenses. It is certainly easier to manually focus the Voigtlander on the E-P1 than to manually focus my Nikon lenses on my Nikon D90.
