Olympus 50mm F1.8 Lens - The ' F ' Zuiko Version *****
« on: August 14, 2010, 12:48:30 PM »
Hi Guys,

I've only just got in to photography and bought an E-P1 about 2 months ago which was my first SLR but. I've been messing about with lenses and just bought a 50mm OM lens from eBay for £20. I attach the lens using a micro 4/3rds adapter and then a 4/3rds to OM adapter.

I thought I'd show you some of the results I've been getting, I must admit I'm really pleased with the results so far:

A close up of a Bumble Bee in my garden, shows the detail the lens can get

A shot of an old fishing boat near my home on the North-East English coast

Some marram grass, I think this shows some good depth of field from the lens

Finally some lobster pots which again I think show how good this lens really is

Overall I couldn't be happier and what I love the most is that this is an old lens than can get fantastic results  ;)

Extremely good results! Can you post a picture of the lens itself?

By an uncanny coincidence I also got the same lens a week or so ago - and also tok some shots by the sea (in this case the North Norfolk coast)

It is indeed a cracking lens!

...and another -

Hi there,
Just wondering - does that mean you used two adaptors?

Yes neek, I use the micro 4/3rds to 4/3rds adapter and then the 4/3rds to OM adapter. It's not too bothersome as the 50mm isn't too deep. I would recommend as you can pick up a good OM 50mm for about £30.

You can get a single adapter (OM to m4/3)

But hey - two is twice the fun!

Especially with the price of the MMF-1/2 adapters...

"Attaching two or more adapters between the camera body and the lens is not recommended".

It may not be recommended but it works, here's a more recent with the 50mm:

It's not uber sharp like the newer 4/3rds lenses but I put that down to the manual focus, However I like the softness I get from this lens.

It's hard to say how sharp it is from that image, but on my AUTO-S version stopping down to F/2.8 or F/4 helps a lot.

I've found my three OM lenses to be very sharp (50mm and 28mm) to acceptably sharp (135mm) provided they aren't wide open.
