Minolta Rokkor PG 50mm f/1.4 Lens Samples *****
« on: January 15, 2010, 10:47:10 AM »
My version of this lens is pretty beat up. Everything on it is pretty loose, so I can't be sure it is a prime example of this lens. It has that intensely creamy Minolta look, but it's nice and sharp when it wants to be.

Searching info on "Rokkor MD 50mm 1.4" in the net, there are different incarnations of this Minolta fast prime. For example, one has 3 instead of 4 rows of corrugated rubber at the focusing ring and no silver bottom. Is there any information about characteristics of these different incarnations? Thanks.

The prices have gone up a little since then. Even so, I got mine for less than $20.

Bokeh around the pear are dreamy. Nice.
What does "PG" stands for in the nomenclature?
Are those version without "PG" another thing?
We surely cannot get a piece at US20 locally.  :(

The P and G refer to the number of groups and elements. http://www.rokkorfiles.com/Lens%20History.html

Here's some more info on the various 1.4 50s. http://www.rokkorfiles.com/Battle%20of%2050s2.htm

Bidding from a local auction site, I got the same Minolta MC Rokkor-PG 50/1.4 as Jeremy posted. The serial number of my lens is 3436480. I can post how it looks with E-P2 later on.

I took several photos where I met the seller. It was Shamshuipoo in Hong Kong. The place is well known for selling computers, PC and console games, electronic gadgets and cheap variety stuff.

I wish someone could answer my questions.  I am tempted to get this lens you all like so much.  Is the Rokkor-X PG 50mm 1.4 PG better than the X 50mm 1.4?  Is it using the MD to M4/3 mount?  It cost 70US on eBay.  Anywhere cheaper.   I thought it was using M42 screw mount which I have.

@Stephen

I don't own both so I could not comment.
You can take references from the article below:
http://bit.ly/dj9cxd

Both lenses are of MD mount.
You have to use a MD to M4/3 adapter.
I bought mine locally for ~USD45.
