Yes, the 17 is a good lens.... too bad to many try to compare it to lenses that are made at a higher IQ standard...

I had one, at 1st, But found the f/2.8 was too limiting for indoor w/o flash photography... But, the IQ is very good, and delivers the IQ.

I bought the single-lens kit with the 17mm because I wasn't bothered about not having the zoom. As much as anything I like the sheer portability of the camera with a pancake lens on it. I tend to photograph things and landscapes rather than people so the shortcomings of the 17mm don't really apply to me. Here are a few of my photos. The bee and dragonfly pictures have been cropped, the others not.
