Lumix 14mm f/2.5 ASPH Samples *****
« on: November 19, 2010, 05:00:00 PM »
Just got my Lumix 14/2.5 this morning via Fed Ex from H and B Digital thought Amazon.  Much smaller than I thought it would be.  Sorta' makes the 20/1.7 look big.  Initial impressions are very good.  Interestingly on the E-PL1 it makes a "clicking" noise when the camera is moved from a dark area to a very bright light source such as a lamp.  No such noise with the Panasonic G1 body.  With the E-PL1 if feels as if its adjusting to the light in steps.  This somewhat peculiar behavior doesn't seem to affect the lens operation.
Here some quick images from our office to home tonight, all at 2.5;
The corner of my desk. . .

Toys in the office area. . .

Moderately amused wife.  By the way, I bounced the on camera flash by holding it pointing up with my finger on my left hand. . .

My son, (ya, I know, again.). . .

ISOs range from 640 to 1600, Images processed in LR3.

looks like a pretty good lens.. 28mm is such a nice "In-Home" candid lens..
Noise is low... the EPL-1 does good in that range. Colors are good, Sharpness/Detail are good too at those ISO's
I love the BW  (My weakness  ;D)

Well we see some outdoor images soon?

M5, thanks for the comments.  I'll try to get out for a bit tomorrow.  I agree, a 28mm is very useful.  I used to have a 28mm OM for my OM1 "back in the day".

This would be perfect for the Lens Sample Photo Archive. Moving it there.

I like this one... Low angle, great framing and subjects.

M5 - thanks.  I'm really liking the 14mm.  Seems very sharp and not horribly contrasty.  Focus is a bit faster than the Lumix 20mm.  The EVF was very handy for getting the low angle on this shot too.

Hey there

Just bought this lens. All the product photos I see, including the ones in Panasonic's Website show a grey band or ring in the barrel. Mine is all black. Is this normal? Has anyone heard of an all black barrel?

thanks

looks like it depends on the color of the body it came with.

"The GF2 comes in a choice of colors depending on market (out of black, red, silver, white and pink), and for buyers of the red and black versions the 14mm lens sports a black (as opposed to steel grey) barrel."

Shortly after my daughter brought back a GF2 with the 14 f2.5 from Japan, where she picked up for me (for quite a bit less than it sells for in Germany). A colleague of mine saw it on my shoulder and was a tad quizzical:

It's a rather nice 28mm equivalent, which is what I used mostly back in the days of film for street work. Great lens. :-)

PS: you can't see it from this reduced picture, but the sharpness is simply outstanding.
