Industar 26M 52mm f/2.8 (LTM/L39 mount) Lens Samples *****
« on: March 05, 2010, 07:22:26 AM »
I got the little Russian chrome color lens from a user in a local OM discussion board.
He bought batches of lenses from USSR and Ukraine.

As you can see from the photo, the barrel is quite worn out. Actually, the appearance was even worse when I got it as shown below.

As the lens elements, focusing ring and the aperture blades were fine, I took it.
Some cleaning and polishing work were done on the lens.
I'm no expert on this kind of job but the work done did make a difference.

The picture has reasonably good sharpness when the lens is stopped down. Unlike other sharper lens, I could not appreciate the sharpness in EVF when I took the picture. Lucky that they turn out okay.

f/8 - 1/60 sec - ISO 200 (-0.7EV)

f/8 - 1/100 sec - ISO 200

f/5.6 - 1/125 sec - ISO 200

f/4 - 1/800 sec - IO 200 (-0.7EV)

f2.8 - 1/1600 sec - ISO 200

f/2.8 - 1/500 sec - ISO 200

Not all that rosy, the lens suffers from very severe flare problems when it's being pointed to the sky / light source.
I cannot find a hood suitable for it yet so I cannot test if a hood is a remedy or not.

f/5.6 - 1/80 sec - ISO 320

Gareth, Very nice photos.  Is it in a 39 screw mount?  I have that adapter.  Do you mind to tell us how much it cost?

Hi Stephen. Yes. It's Leica 39 thread / screw mount. I got it for HK$250 ~ CAD33. There are lots of Russian lenses in eBay I believe. I bought from a local seller in HK to save my troubles of bidding / waiting for shipment. Another advantage is that I can pay after testing face-to-face with the seller. I have waited for quite some time to spot a sale for the lens only. Most Russian lenses available in HK bidding sites go with Russian cameras, Fed, Kiev, e.g., which I don't need.

Wow, what a price. I'll try to find some at eBay.  They are charging shipping though.  I have a Canon screw mount 35mm.  Let me show you some shots later and tell me should I rplace it with the Russian one.

Photos are superb.
You have very interesting places in HK too.
The lens will itself fit better on my white E-P1  :P
You may beat flare in some occasions with the levels tool (see attachment).

@Stephen
I'd be interested to see pictures from the Canon glass. Thanks. :)

@adash
The barrel of the lens can looks pleasingly glistening after being polished. I do not have experience in taking product shots of shiny things so my pictures do not do it justice. It'll look great with silver E-P1 as well. :)

It's a small public garden called ""Fung Tak Park" in Kowloon.

P.S. Thanks for the tips.

That thing looks like it's made from steel.

Should be aluminium. I guess Gareth polished it well.

I can't find in the web what it's made of.
Judging from its weight in my hands, I believe adash is right - aluminum is most likely.
I rubbed the barrel surface with metal polishing cream and thick tissue towels.
The surface shone after lots of black stain had left on the tissue towels.
The seller called me this afternoon as he had received another batch of Russian lenses.
I'll meet him tomorrow evening to see if I can pick up some interesting stuff. :)

Good luck with the seller. You might find precious gems there  :)
On the material - if a magnet sticks to it, it is steel. If a magnet is attracted to parts of it only, there is some steel inside.
