Cosina Cosinon Auto 50mm f/1.8 (M42 mount) Lens Samples *****
« on: January 21, 2010, 03:36:52 PM »
Acquiring an affordable 3rd party old lens for M4/3 is a very enjoyable experience.
The joy is even more if the lens exceeds your expectations.

I searched in the internet but could not find much information about this lens.
I suppose it's some sort of standard kit lens in its days?
It's small measuring a little bit less than 4cm in height.
Minimal focusing distance is 0.5 meter.
Lens cap 49mm
6 blades diaphragm
Aperture from f/1.8 to 16

The lens -  Cosinon Auto 50mm f/1.8 (M42 mount)

The lens mounted on E-P2

I didn't expect much when I first trying on the lens.
To my surprise, I find the colors from the lens, especially yellow and green hue, contrasty and distinctly pleasing. The images are solid and crisp when stopped down to f/2.8. All photos are JPEG straight from the camera.

f/8 - 1/160 sec - ISO 200 (-0.3 EV) @ E-P2

f/8 - 1/80 sec - ISO 320 (-0.7 EV) @ E-P2

f/1.8 - 1/500 sec - ISO 200 (-0.3 EV) @ E-P2

f/2.8 - 1/250 sec - ISO 200 (-0.3 EV) @ E-P2

f/4.0 - 1/125 sec - ISO 200 (-0.3 EV) @ E-P2

f/5.6 - 1/80 sec - ISO 200 (-0.3 EV) @ E-P2

As you can see, metering of E-P2 on legacy lens is very capable. :)

f/11 - 1/320 sec - ISO 200 @ E-P2

You're welcome.
Some hiccups in the board are inevitable. :)

BTW, I cannot access the Board from Hong Kong in last 3 - 4 hours.
The response is slow occasionally at this moment.
FYI.

needless to say i am intrigued by any and all cosina made lenses , this one looks like it can stand next to any well designed 50 mm slr lens

cosina makes many great lenses , all the current lineup of sweet  voigtlanders and all the zeiss lenses, for certain designs, among the best in the world

they also make the  modern  Zeiss Ikon rangefinder camera which is one beautiful machine

yes its true, cosina's lens are really a good products for camera and camera lover. These posted snaps are really awesome and fine texture gives goose bumps, cause taking photographs need passion, and its in complete in absence of quality lens.

cosinaphile, - what do you think of the bokeh at wide-open of that lens? To be honest it looks to me as though it’s exhibiting two separate and severe bokeh problems — jangling doughnut highlights, and an overall swirling vertigo. Generally, neither of those characteristics would amount to desirable bokeh at all.

as i understand it donut shaped bokeh comes from mirror lenses , when i look at the shot at wide open apeture
i dont find the out of focus areas unpleasant at all , perhaps not what some purists would seek , but not bad

imho
