Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 samples*****
« on: January 18, 2012, 04:17:49 PM »
I decided to try out my Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 on my E-P1 via Fotodiox EOS to Mu43 adapter.  Since this is an EOS lens, there is no changing the aperture when mounted to the E-P1, so you are stuck at wide open unless you make the aperture change on the Canon body itself using a little trick.  With the lens mounted to the powered up Canon DSLR, you set the desired aperture and then hold the DOF preview button, then dismount the lens while still holding the DOF preview button.

Oddly, I had a harder time getting focus with the 50/1.4 mounted on the E-P1 than the Rokinon 85/1.4.  I did get a few samples, all wide open and with my cats as finicky subjects.

When mounted on the E-P1, the Canon 50/1.4 is very sharp wide open and good to the edges.  Hey, we're using the sweet spot on the glass so no surprises there.

If you have EOS lenses, then why not adapt them to your Mu43 system.  Otherwise, it would be unwise to go this route if you do not already own an EOS kit.  You'd be better of by just adapting FD lenses, that way you get aperture control as well and spend less money in the process.

Here are the minor samples:

This is always a great lens, too bad it's huge on the E-P1.
