with rust and all...

This is the brass exposed.

You think this is expensive? What about the actual series 0:

Quote
Today (May 28, 2011) at Westilicht Photographica Auctions a Leica 0-Serie Nr.107 (1923) camera sold for 1.3 million EUR (1.9 million USD). The opening bid was 200,000 EUR with an estimated price of 350,000-450,000 EUR. AP reports that the camera went to a "private Asian collector after a nailbiting, 20-minute bidding process".  This is the camera description:

This is the 7th camera of the Leica 0-series. Only approximately 25 of these cameras were produced to test the market in 1923, 2 years before the commercial introduction of the Leica A. It is the only camera known with “Germany” engraving on the top plate. The factory record indicates delivery to New York for patent applies. This means that this camera is not only one of the major existing rarities, it is also the first Leica being exported. It is the unique chance to buy the most important collectible Leica camera.

The previous record for the most expensive Leica was a MP2 that sold for 402,000 in December of 2010.

I suppose there is the potential of getting stuff from Germany really cheap when the Euro does its death-rattle, which should be any minute now.

I advise you to not holding your breath while waiting... ;)

But I guess thats why the european dealers sell on ebay for U.S. dollars.

EBay adjust currency based on where you live.
You pay my Euro price exchanged in dollars, I cash it in Euros - it is
for this reason that I prefer to sell in Europe and buy in the good ol` U.S. of A.

This weeks submission:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Prototype-2-lenses-Rollei-Zeiss-Planar-135mm-f-2-HFT-/310362625502?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item48430dd5de

Seems a little silly, but maybe I'm the only one here who never made it to the "Rollei museum".

The consecutive serial number thing is interesting, when I sold my 250mm telyt R a few months back I noticed someone on the bay selling one with an extremely similar serial number, I went and checked my photos and records (suspecting some sort of weird scam) and discovered someone was selling one with the next serial number, I guess someone missed a potential goldmine.

This is a bittersweet post. Probably top on my list of all time lens-lust. The Canon K35 55mm f1.4 aspherical mp lens. Canon actually made a set of motion-picture primes back in the day, and I got to use these once or twice back in the 80s or 90s (Panavision had a few sets for rental). They really weren't very popular, Zeiss super-speeds ruled then (as now). $9500?  Maybe worth it to someone, but it should be listed here just because he wants $127 for shipping ;D

127$ for standard shipping?!! wonder what he'll charge for next day...i expect the thing to get to my house in a crate, with infrared laser security, and a doberman pincher inside.

$9500?
Is this a collector's item? Because if it isn't, I can think of a pile of L glass you can get at that price. Or at least the great Oly F/2 ZOOMs....

Can you imagine that the old Canonet film cameras still go for more than a digital Rebel!?

The cult of Kinoptik:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/EX-Kinoptik-Paris-Apochromat-100mm-f-2-Modified-to-Nikon-Macro-100-F2-/310387891880?pt=Camera_Lenses&hash=item48448f5ea8

$7,299.00, just add it to your cart!

Remarkably, Kinoptiks in this price range seem to be doing a pretty good business. Something about French lenses (including Angenieux) seems to really appeal to some well-heeled Asian photographers, there is at least one user group, lots of Chinese participants.

I actually owned one, a 5.7 wide angle for my 16mm Arriflex mp camera, there wasn't anything wider available at the time, fixed focus! Among the motion picture people they (Kinoptiks) weren't highly regarded, they were well made but then just about everything was well made back then.

Wow, thats sweet. I think I remember what they smelled like when they came out of the box like that.  I don't think I could go $6K though, even for "Lapita memorial". F3s were/are great.
