You haven't answered the question. What does anyone need a tablet for (any flavor) except the fashion factor?

Android Market is small potatoes and low grade compared to what's available for the iPhone or iPad -

That used to be the case maybe a year ago. Now there's either the same app (sometimes for free whereas on iPhone not) or an answer to an app. They've even managed to caught up on autism.

its funny, the people who.actually NEED a tab don't really seem to have one (the here's my work kind of people). There's some really cool stuff out there, my cousin has so many useful (useful meaning that he uses daily) medical apps that its amazing how he managed without one.  HTC said not long ago that a tablet With something like 4 cores and 5gb of RAM was perfectly doable today, but what would be the use? I remember yelling at the screen: photoshop you moron!!
I cant imagine what a 14 year old perfectly healthy teen has to do with a tablet besides Facebook and YouTube...

If you read my reply to Lisandra's question that you quoted you would see that I am answering the question she posed....if you want me to answer your (loaded) question it's quite simple.

A tablet offers all the mobile advantages of a smart phone plus many more that include a larger keyboard. more readable web pages, applications that can be used to edit Word docs, Powerpoints, Excel spreadsheets, images, video, audio, etc, etc, etc...... 'Touch' technology reduces the need for buttons considerably and also provides functions that buttons simply can't match.

I only got my tablet a month ago so I am talking about Android Market now - not a year ago. It's catching up to iTunes App Store slowly but has a long way to go and will only really take off when Gingerbread (Android 2.3) becomes universal. At the moment a lot of the Android apps seem to be modified Windows games and such and the graphics are very poor compared to what I'm used to with my iPhone.

iTunes App Store has thousands of free apps and there is no charge for an iTunes account so there is no issue - Google simply copied the Android Market from the Apple model (as usual)

A equally robust misconception is that you can only run music bought from iTunes on an iPod/iPhone/iPad. An urban myth with no foundation.  I have about 60 albums on my Mac that I use on my iPhone, none bought from iTunes - all of them simply imported MP3s, either from CD or converted from vinyl. I have also loaded some of them onto my Android tablet from my Mac quite simply by dragging them on to the relevant folder.

I was considering a tablet for casual use as a Net browser option but, (for me, not my Son.. He needs an iPad 1.. read earlier post why). I may get a net-book instead. I prefer typing on a keypad... but, if tablets get into the $200.00- to $250.00 range, I may consider one. The convenience of such small device, compared to a laptop for taking on the go, is why they where developed. I know some of them, you can get a plug-in or wireless keyboard, but, just bring your laptop at that point, it will take up less room..

If, like me, you like hanging out a local coffee shop, a tablet of net-book is a viable option.

we talked about this before didn't we? At work we use Droid tabs with autism and occupational therapy apps. Plus April was autism month and since I was being certified (I'm officially certified!) I was really pushing ipads and tabs for therapy. They really do work! Carlysvoice is a true inspiration for this. For applications like these I don't care if its iPad or Droid or whatever as long as we make the kids lives better.

1 TB of RAM is not too soon to arrive at the PC market. The mid-range of IBM POWER server still arrive with modest numbers like 128, 256 GB, etc. and this seems to be perfect for several LPARs (Logical partitions, it's like virtual machines, but managed by hardware, instead of software).
80GB seems to be perfectly enough for 1400 concurrent users from bank branches, and it is so sufficient that 61% of the memory are still used for disk cache, greatly speeding things up by caching the most frequently used files in memory.

BTW, I used to be a great apple fan, although I never had a MAC myself. That was before 2006, when apple computers became basically PC with proprietary firmware.
The switch from PowerPC to Intel is what drove me away, the PowerPC(also POWER for the server market) having twice the performance of the x86 or x64 part for the same clock frequency.
Now everything apple seems to be just an overpriced junk, the same product like the 50% cheaper competition, but just better interface.
No, thanks.

On the main topic - I've been happily using Ubuntu GNU/Linux on all of my PC-based machines. No Photoshop, no Vegas, etc, but I am not willing to switch to Window$ as feels like sitting in a family sedan after driving a V12 Lamborghini, and I will probably not switch to MAC because they are greatly overpriced, just like stated above.

I'll tell you how to 'mend' the overpricing issue of Apple/Mac.  As you pay for your Apple machine, - MacPro, 27"iMac, iPod/Pad or whatever, - take the equal amount of money and buy yourself Apple shares.  I did that ten years ago, - and enjoyed my Apple machinery (no iPhone, though) ever since, - 'for free' (and even more so.  Just go checkin the value increase of their shares, :-)

Now, - seriously, - maybe, - or just maybe, I would have been even better off buying their shares, - and not their stuff?  LOL
