I've been bashing local fellows in local forums (Bulgaria) because comparing what bulgarians did after a 16-year old girl was shot in the head by a dunk policeman in the very center of Sofia in 2001 (i.e. nothing ) to what english fellows are doing now (ok, immigrants count too), we look like sheep in a slaughterhouse, while english people are much more confident and aware of their influence over the system and are willing to protect their civil rights with no fear.

This has got nothing to do with anyone being shot.  Mindless violence.  One can talk all day about this being the result of an ignored underclass.  Horseshit.  I just feel sick that people are burning their own cities.

I'll try and post some pictures soon (not of the riots!).  That should cheer me up.....

Why would Egyptian/Tunisian/Libyan people want to burn their own cities then?

It's the same old story.... Since the beginning of time

Land Control = Power = Money (To the Top Leaders)

Some countries make some gains, stop gaining land, and move on....

Others, never have enough   Land/Power/Money..  Thus keep fighting and trying to be the one at the top of the heap in the end, with all the Land/Power/Money they can grab on the way. Discounting fellow countrymen as foe not friend....

Boy, the Brits sure know how to throw a riot! Makes our (infamous) "Vancouver Stanley Cup Riot" the other month look like a tussle with unruly 5-year olds...  :-\

I am very sad to see what is happening in Britain. I only partly agree with M-5's assessment. Yes, there is no doubt that class lines are rigidifying and as the economic slowdown proceeds the lower classes are suffering the most. This is a phenomenon not limited to Britain, however. There was a similar riot in Milwaukee last month. What is pure crap is that the rioters who represent Britain's new underclasses choose to loot and burn their own neighborhoods instead of organize political action. They have shown themselves to be the lowest of the low in mentality and spirit--helping themselves to stolen television sets and robbing defenseless people. Furthermore this will backfire; there is a building backlash-not dissimilar to what happened in the states 40 years ago.

I'm afraid I'm not up to date on what the current riots in places like London are experiencing are about. I know there were some closer to a year ago, but I'm assuming this is because of all of the economic problems currently occurring?

It's scary to think that the United States might be next.

Watch the Wisconsin Recall elections tonight...
If the Dems win back the State Senate, then we should see the Dems base mobilize across the State Elections, and see a lot of policies reversed that are aimed at the working middle class to lessen their political power and voice.

Thankfully, the demonstrations so far, has been peaceful (non violent) in as far riots goes...

Well, my previous statement is kind of incorrect. This did happen in the US before, in the LA riots.
