Too bad, I hope they won't discontinue their films - I find the Portra especially attractive.

Hopefully, they will still offer a selection of films, TRI-X, CN400, TMX FILMS, a few color films also. The Ectar is great color film, as is Porta.
It is Ch11, so, it is restructuring their company. Not closing the doors.

indeed ,i think immediately  of fuji, and i say to myself imagine if kodak maker of the sensor for the 7000 dollar m9 had the balls to commission cosina to create with a domestic factory arrangement reminicent of the japan detroit connection  to make a 10 or 12 mp digitlal rf with 3 lenses  with affordable prices

full frame  1500 dollars body 600 dollars a lens ill bet in 2 years they would have made a billion dollars with this   thy could have tried to produce a premium brand
with sane prices , and also understood the digital revolution  with a bit more clarity and foresite

Hate to say it, but in a few years we may be left with just some film in the freezer, our memories of Kodak, and it's contribution to the English lexicon, "Kodak moment".

Nay,
Film won't die, but, our selection will become very limited, I think Kodak and Fuji and Ilford will still make film. But, a scaled down to the ones that are popular now.
Large Format sheet film is still made, despite the very small market. The Pro Market will keep it alive.

There are plenty of PRO film RF/SLR users that only shoot for documentary assignments all over the world, the market is big enough. And plenty of people like us, who love photography and love both Film and Digital because Digital can not duplicate film, mainly the grain is the problem, not the film emulation software. Digital grain is blotchy, film grain is speckled and doesn't destroy detail in the same way digital does. That's for HIGH ISO's. Evan low ISO film has a lovely fine grain look, that adds to the image. Where Low ISO Digital Smooth Grain (no grain).

So, it has different look than film, Not bad, just different.

Just look at Polaroid. Nobody thought that would ever disappear.

Good point.  But, there is a company that bought the patent and is making the film again.
