Great video tip
« on: May 27, 2011, 03:43:28 PM »
OK, maybe someone knows already this but i just discovered this.
Go to movie mode dial on your PEN camera. Press ok and select aperture priority shooting (not on dial).
Now, if you are indoors or in really low light enviroment this tip starts to show its potential.
Make shure your viewfinder or LCD shows info settings like shutter speed aperture and histogram, press up and then press right to up your EV from 0.5 to 3.0 (dont know if there is difference bettween cameras).
You will see that although limits of a camera is shutter speed at 1/30 and iso 1600 in manual, auto or shutter priority, you can up the brightness of a video (only aperture priority). Btw i must say any serious video requires manual lenses from Canon, Nikon or OM systems (any other will do too).
Other uses of this trick is to keep ISO lowest as possible and ajust EV to keep the noise down to acceptable level.
Hope it helps

This is a good tip--I'll try it out. I've found my PEN videos to be very noisy, even though m4/3 has a much larger sensor than a camcorder (this I don't get). Noisy even with the 20mm f/1.7 wide open.

Another tip I read was to set noise reduction to 'High' for video--but unfortunately there's no separate settings for stills/video, so you have to remember to dial it back down after videoing.
