right now im on a Dual 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M, SLI Enabled card.

I heard tha next generetion intel processors will be i10- i12. Right now Im on an overclocked i7 2960xm. IBM has a 7 physical cores monstrosity (layout of the PS3) but the price is ridiculous.

I'm gonna post photos of it soon, I'm still setting it up. I signed up for a beta testing program called RAMifications, it allows/forces editing programs to use all the RAM posible. So far I've been able to attach it to photoshop cs4 portable and run it to 12gb. It does a 50history states of a single liquify filter action without flinching a tiny bit. I'm gonna try the full 24 gb setup on premier cs5 as soon as I can.
I'm loving this thing to pieces. It's flashy with lots of color LEDs and looks like the front end of a lambo. I don't care, its awesome.

it weights like 300 pounds but its worth it...18.4 screen, 4.0 ghz processor, 32 gb of RAM and nvidia geoforce gtx 580. I can open 20 70mbs tiffs at the same time and it doessnt even flinch.

yeah whats up with that?? I dont think RAID is an absolute necessity like the rest of the editing/gaming world seems to think...

RAID is essential if you are using AVID MC or FCP and editing HD in ProRes or DNxHD codecs that those systems use. The space and speed requirements are much higher. If I do any upgrades this winter its going to be an Nvidia Quadra card and a RAID controller (in the off-chance that sometime in future I will use an outboard  recorder on the AF100). For AVCHD RAID is mostly for redundancy, but I'm well backed-up already.
yeah but im using SDDs, arent SDDs faster than raid at any rpm and able to handle whatever raid can?

The Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive has 5GB of built in SSD and it will automatically determine the most heavily accessed files to move to the 5GB for better performance.  I'm using these drives now in all of my computers.  They are a great bang for the buck.

Sure if you can afford the space. Current SSDs easily do 200mbs and are limited in most systems (SATA2) to something like 230mbs. But some people are running SSD's in RAID 0 and getting even more insane data rates.

All of this is sort of moot unless you are shooting uncompressed HD, which is almost an option with an AF100 and HDSDI out to something like a Blackmagic hyperdrive (10 bit 4:2:2).

Affording the space becomes the issue. I'm currently working on a project of 20 plus 3 to 4 minute pieces. The AVCHD media alone comes to over 200gb. Then there are animation files, still photos, music tracks. Just as a "best practices" thing I like to keep individual drives to 50% or under. I guess I've been pretty lucky, I've only lost a couple HDs in the past 6 or 7 years and traditional HDs are so cheap now its hard for me to justify moving to SSDs for media storage, maybe I will consider SSDs soon for OS. Its not like I am sitting around waiting for my 500gb or 1tb seagates to read something, I get renderless full resolution HD playback with my current setup.

I figured I'd go for it while I was spending my life savings when I was building it. I got two 750 gb ssds on the thing.

wow, now you have me shopping for SSDs

A machine as hot as yours, I think I would have to wear some protective clothing when using it. 8)

I'm taking care of it as it were a baby. I have a giant hand sanitation next to it. If I had to choose just one feature is go for the ssds, insane read/write speeds with little or no heat (the fan rarely kicks in). I imported a 54 gb video folder through the usb 3.0 port and my mouth was open the whole time. It really is that fast. Plus I set the second ssd as a scratch disk for photoshop and premier, not sure if it'll ever get to that but who knows...
