Smokey Water
« on: January 24, 2011, 01:40:00 PM »
I like the smokey water effect and when I get a chance to would like to give it a go.

Can anyone give me some tips on what exposure, shutter speeds etc?

You mean blurry water? Like when photographing a waterfall, but it looks like a transparent curtain because falling light is totally blurred?

If you don't have an ND filter you have to shoot late in the day or early in the morning. The lowest ISO possible, small apertures (higher f numbers) if no ND filter, in A mode. If shutter speeds are not in the seconds (5 or more) there's too much light. For crashing waves 5 seconds will do just fine, for a flowing river sometimes 3 seconds will do the job.
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

Thanks Lisandra, haven't got an ND filter so will have to give the early morning late evening a go.
