settings for E-PL2
« on: February 07, 2011, 07:18:34 AM »
Hi i just got my E-PL2 out of the box and battery is charging. I am new to the PEn and I'm wondering about which setting to use. There are so many options to chose from. Image quality I'll set to L and super fine, but what else should I take in consideration?
Thanks in advance

Turn the wheel to A ( aperture priority), and control the F-number of the lens (open it for low light, stop down a bit for better sharpness).
Set the camera to RAW, rather than JPEG, and develop your files later.
Put different settings and learn.
It's gonna be a lot of fun!

There are a ton of settings for you to learn and tweak. But I find myself still going back to iAuto if I need to take a picture in a hurry (or if the wife is standing there looking very impatient) and I don't have time to think and tweak. There is lots of debate over RAW vs JPEG. I use RAW mainly when I think there is a high probability I'll spend some time later tweaking the image, otherwise I stick to JPEG for everyday shots.

I've heard people advise against "Super Fine" for the E-P1 because it's very little improvement over "Fine" and hte file sizes are nearly as big as RAW. You might as well shoot RAW in that case. I actually shoot using "Normal" compression.
