Last month I took a trip to Rome and of course took a lot of pictures which I posted on my Flickr account. Recently someone sent me a flickrmail asking for permission to use some of my photos on the website for his tour company. He wasn't very clear about which or how many photos he was interested in using.

The request kind of caught me off guard as I haven't been on Flickr for very long. Not sure how I should respond. Is it fairly typical to get requests like this? I guess I would mostly be concerned about copyright issues. Any advice would be appreciated.

you have every right to charge him even if he does give you credit

Make sure you have some kind of written agreement for use on HIS website only,
do not give him a blanket permission for use wherever he wants.!

It needs be to a "Web-Site" specific use.  Travel agency's have many many partner sites that use their service, and you don't want your photo being distributed to them without your permission and extra payment for that usage.

More usage = more money per usage.  This is a business, not a buddy/buddy transaction.

There is standard for printed "one time usage". Depending on the publication size in the number per week/month circulated/printed, and how much page space it takes up. (Full Page, 1/2 page, 1/4 page, 1/8 page) I wouldn't be surprised if the same pricing tier exists for internet displaying of someone else's photos..

I found a page that may help in pricing...  Look at all the lines.... some are for a photo use as a "Click" button, and some for page coverage... 1/4, 1/2 etc
