This one is supposed to look a little grainy. I improved (in my mind, atleast) the grainy output from the preprogrammed art filter.

The first is a bit too tight for my understanding, and the second looks a bit unnatural because you have played a bit too much with curves/brightness/contrast after the camera did its part.

I really like both pictures.  Very good composition and the second one is looking straight into the camera. Great portraits.

What lens did you use ?

One tip:
I would take the pictures without art filter and apply a filter in photoshop or aperture or some other graphical programm.

Hey Asterinex,

For the first picture I used the 40mm Nokton f1.4. I actually stacked 2 shots in there to increase the sharpness as they were taken fairly wide open (f 1.8 I think)

The second picture was taken with the 14 - 42mm standard kit lens. It was probably one of the first 20 pictures I took with my e-p1. I agree with you, I plan on never using the built in art filters again unless I absolutely have to.

I have recently become a huge fan of Andrzej Dragan - I have to admit that subconciously I was trying to make these two portraits look similar to his work.

Thank you for the compliments though :)

Don't completely rule out the art filters.   The grainy art filter can be a little aggressive, but I for one rather like the pin hole effect filter.

I like the effect, but I'd back off the contrast a bit, You may need adj "Curves" to get back some tonal range, not a lot, just some, I like the "Suntan" look.

I think the first one is definitely good, but the actual position of your model is something you need to think about in the future. There's just something unnatural about your second photo.

Ditto!

Good work, but I hope you will develop enough confidence in your work to present the shots without so much post-processing.
