Canon FD 28/2.8 and 50/1.4 for $40 a good deal?
« on: June 09, 2011, 01:16:56 AM »
Hello everyone.  This site has been awesome in my baptism into the m43 world.  My e-p1 arrives tomorrow and am eager to take my first snap.

I've been looking for some prime lenses and came across a deal for canon FD 28/2.8 and 50/1.4 for $40.  This would be my first lens purchase and everyone here seems very knowledgeable.  What do you all think.

Deal or no deal?

That doesn't sound like a bad deal for both lenses, just make sure they work and all. Also remember that you'll need to buy an adapter.

Hi, James, and welcome to the forum!
These do sound like a great deal, but it also depends on condition - you should pay great attention to glass condition, check for scratches, fungus, etc.
You will also need an adapter.

Canon FD lenses have always been great glass and optics, but as already mentioned, they need to be very, very clean in the glass department. If not, you might as well buy a brick, literally. If both lenses are TOTALLY clean, then that price is a darn good one.

Good luck with it and let us know how you get on thanks.

Danny.

Got the lenses last weekend and was waiting on the adapter.  Now that I have everything I took some quick snaps. Hopefully I'll have time to post more pics taken with the lenses soon.

The lenses are in great condition.  The lady selling them was in her 50's and told me that they belonged to her father.  He took great care of the glass.  Perfect condition.

First three were taken with the Olympus 14-42mm kit lens.  Last two were taken with the FD glass.

Very, very nice. Great deal in that case :). Good on you and well done.

All the best and excellent optics.
