40-150mm Olympus lens - Any tips on how to get best results?
« on: January 03, 2012, 05:07:32 AM »
Finally got what I had wished for, for Christmas today. The Olympus m.Zuiko 40-150mm lens just caught the courier as I was leaving for work.  :D :D

So any tips on how to get the best results with it would be very much appreciated.

Make sure ani shake is on for hand held shots / use a tripod !
Use a shtterspeed not shorter than the focal lenght you are working at!

I used to have this lens and a love/hate relationship. I couldn't always get sharp results at the longer focal distances, but when I did, it was pretty amazing.

Here's an example

My only advice, always try to use fast shutter speeds.

Cheers

Fast Speeds + ICS are a good habit to have.... it is better to set a proper speed for the longer zooms (I'd suggest 1/200 minimum, even with ICS).
Remember, it is a 150mm in reality, BUT, 300mm in actual FOV... so like a 300mm on a FF camera...
To be on the safe side... one over the FOV of the lens.... SO, 1/300 is safe minimum... but with ICS, and braced, (for the long end) you can get away with 1/160)

It is a 150mm lens, and that would suggest 1/160s speed, BUT, the image magnified by 2x  So, that would  suggest 1/320s speed used.

make some tests, and remember your LOW speed limit you can use at the longer end.... with and w/o ICS

Most of my Golden Gate Bridge photos are taken with it. No matter what you have the lens on, you're going to get some amazing photos. It does vignette a bit leading up to 150mm.

That would of been a bit cheaper than buying the M4/3 version.  ;)

Not too bad. The Micro Four Thirds version is considerably cheap, especially when on sale.
