"IR" Question....?
« on: April 20, 2011, 06:15:00 PM »
Okay, if converting an IR body involves removing the AA filter - then what about Foveon based bodies since the Foveon sensor doesn't have an AA filter ?

converting to IR removes the IR cut filter but leaves the AA filter. Thats how I understand it anyway
More megapixels don't necessarily mean more resolution...

Most conversions remove the aa filter also. They are usually a solid sandwich with the hot mirror

What do they put there instead of it? I tried to IR-convert a compact camera, but it didn't focus at infinity anymore. I guess the impact on the optical path by the IR-stop filter is not negligible.

So since the Foveon sensors don't have an AA filter, is this a "true" IR...? (I somehow don't think so now...)

Yes it is a true UV/IR if you remove the hot mirror.  You then program the camera to specific IR bands with external filters or replace the hot mirror with a dedicated IR filter inside of the camera.  I have seen a lot of great Foveon IR images!
