Polarizing Filters

I understand tat circular polarizers are necessary for cameras that have beam splitters or mirrors between the lens and the sensor/film. That is not the case with m4/3 cameras. Could we not just use regular polarizers on the m4/3 cameras? (at least when using manual focus)
