Olympus Remote Control (RC) Flash
« on: August 22, 2011, 08:07:41 PM »

Will the flash of other cameras set off the remote flashes?

In other words, If I have a couple of FL-36R flashes strategically setup in the living room and am taking pictures of grandson opening birthday presents with my new (hopefully soon) E-P3, will the flash of other cameras set the FL-36R flashes off?

Just curious if other cameras will interfere with the remote flashes.   Is the camera actually flashing a pulsed "code" to the remote flash?

If the remote flash has a "Slave" option, then yes, the light from your main flash will trigger the remote flash... you will need to use manual flash though.

PLUS, you can get Wireless Flash holders that also has a trigger for your camera hot-shoe... So ANY flash can be used as a remote flash... the flash holder will mount on a tripod or light stand with a tripod screw instead of the stud used to mount mono-lights... eBay... cheap.... a set of 2 flash holders + trigger are under $50.00 for most of them.

The FL36R are remote enabled.  The EPL1 will fire and control them in full TTL mode just as if attached to the camera.  I would HOPE that the EP3 has the same functionality built in since it now included the pop up flash (a requirement!).
