Olympus Macro Lens Adapter MCON-P01
« on: May 25, 2011, 01:15:59 AM »
I wrote a review about one of the new Olympus lens adapters on my blog.
There are some sample images there. All taken with EPL2+14-42mm MkII and the MCON-P01

Do these new adapters mount directly to the 14-42mm MkII?  I have an E-PL1 and recently bought the MkII lens and wondered if I needed anything else to use these adapters. By the way nice photos.

yes they do mount directly to the 14-42mm mkII. And if you separate the MA-P01 from the MCON-P01, it fits the new 40-150mm lens

Very nice quality for an add on close-up lens.
What differences do you see over just using very close focus of the O/14-42ED?

New here to the forum.  I have a PL1 with the 14-42mm zoom.  I also have the MCON-P01 macro converter.  I'm not sure what I am doing wrong and don't want to cause damage by forcing it.  As I understood the information, this slips onto the end of the zoom.  Mine doesn't.  Is there something I am missing on this?

Does the converter have a screw type mount or just a smooth surface to slip on the lens?

It slips over the end of the lens, but there is a smaller ring molded to the inside of the plastic adapter that prevents it from fitting far enough over.  I am tempted to try a modification by grinding out the interfering plastic.

I asked several others and have been told by one that the 14-42mm lens that is supplied with many E-PL1 cameras is not the correct lens, instead there is a 14-42mm mark II lens.  I have written to Olympus stating that perhaps a second adapter should be supplied so that users of the 14-42mm kit lens can also enjoy the use of the MCON-P01.

Any suggestions or input you have would be greatly appreciated, and thank you for the response.  The E-PL1 is a very nice camera.

The E-PL1 should come with the L (light) version of the original 14-42mm kit lens. I don't see how it would make the adapter fit differently as the only difference is the mount is plastic on that lens. The 14-42mm Mark II lens looks substantially different than it.
