Four Thirds to Micro Four Thirds adaptor - worth it?
« on: October 30, 2010, 08:52:50 AM »
I was pondering on the value of purchasing an adaptor, but first let me outline the circumstances
  • I have an EP1 Mrs Wavey a Panasonic G2
  • We both wouldn't mind a super zoom for shooting the odd sports shot like motorbikes
  • I like auto-focus

Therefore I wondered if it was better value to get an adaptor and a Four Thirds lense which might allow the ability to take shots under varying light conditions or if the autofocus is too slow/won't work on both an Olly and a Pano. If that was the case we would be better off geting one of the 300mm zooms that are coming out.

I used the Olympus 50-200 4/3 lens over the spring and summer with both the E-P2+Olympus adapter and the E3.  Autofocus success on the E-P2 was about 50/50 and always slow (compared to the E3). Eventually I gave up on trusting AF with the E-P2 combination in most situations and went to MF.  So I guess I would say it works but not well. The 50-200 focused so quickly and accurately on the E3 that it was almost an unfair comparison.

The Olympus 4/3 lens range is superb, many of them hold up well compared to the best Canon L series, its too bad they don't work better on the m4/3 line.

I have one but don't use it often... Still it could come in handy in the future.

I use it for my 50mm/2.0 macro. AF is slow but accurate.
