Fiters
« on: June 08, 2011, 01:05:17 AM »
I have an E-P1 with the 14/42 lens  & I want use filters with it however the small front diameter gave problems supporting a lens hood.
Has anyone got a solution to using filters with this lens, I dont mind if has to a DIY job I will give it a go.
I want to use an NDGrad mainly.

This is going to be quite difficult, as the front element is rotating when focusing, giving you hard time adjusting the filter itself, and the extra weight may get you into the "check status of a lens" message.
You can use simple filters one at a time with ease, but heavy hoods and rotating filters (i.e. grad ND, grad red, Polarizers) will be a problem.

Maybe you can DIY a mini matte box style unit that attaches to the camera's tripod mount. It would, like the movie cameras that also use this, be rather cumbersome though. You could start with an inexpensive flash bracket pointing in the direction of the lens instead of to the side where it would normally go and build onto that.

Hi WeeE-P1, I have been thinking along these lines, as 'adash' says  problems with front of the lens can/do happen.
I ran my idea past a frien this morning & we will come up with something soon.
Thank for looking at my post, great to see we were thinking  along the same lines.  ;D

I didn't think of the tripod thread. In the past I was trying to figure out a cylinder of some kind that would slide onto the lens barrel and allow a larger diameter filter thread to be installed. Didn't put too much effort and later got the 14-150 which does not rotate on focusing.
