Just read an article in a photo mag & they were not very complimentary about this type of stabilaiser but it does work as a stop gap,
unless like me you are unsteady on your feet!
 ( I am getting On a bit!!)

A monopod will be of a better use, and will double as a hiking pick if needed.
Monopods are also foldable, so it will take little space in one's backpack, although it will not fit in a pocket.
